It has been a long time since we purchased our last pair of Calvin Klein underwear, nothing against the brand, no bad experiences, I honestly think that we just got bored of wearing it. We admire and appreciate all that Calvin Klein did to bring men’s underwear into mainstream fashion and we have always found the brand’s products to be reasonably priced, good quality, comfortable and stylish. So why did we stop buying them, just because we go bored of wearing the same brand every day with its signature bold waistband logo, and we got tired of seeing guys around the world wearing the same brand, with the Calvin Klein name seeming to pop out of every guys jeans in just about every country around the world. We kind of felt that it was a mission to introduce guys to some other brands to try.
But last week we bought our first pair of Calvin Klein’s in a long time. What got us back to this iconic and ubiquitous brand? Their men’s Sculpt Lace collection. We have long been advocates of lace underwear for men, in all it’s forms, but with a particular appreciation for masculine cuts and patterns such as those from Cossabella and Skull And Bones. Now we add Calvin Klein to that list.
The Calvin Klein Sculpt Lace collection features a low-rise trunk, a sports brief (think tanga or french brief), a jock-strap and a thong. The underwear is made from a smooth microfiber that is sleek and comfortable. The styles all feature galloon lace panels and detailing. The lace is in a masculine geometric design, adds a very sexy touch to the underwear without being overly exhibitionist. The pouches are double lined and really comfortable.
Right now the range is only available in black and a mid-grey called “Turbulence”. We hope that this becomes a popular collection and more colors are added, we would love to see this in a range of nude colors and in a classic white.
The signature Calvin Klein waistband branding is there but it is quite subtle and in this case we think that the branding really legitimizes men’s lace underwear, something that is still an unusual choice for most guys.
So kudos to Calvin Klien for pushing boundaries and bringing something unique and fresh into their men’s underwear collection. This is the first lace underwear that we have felt comfortable wearing in the gym locker room. The lace is subtle, masculine and flattering, we think a lot of guys will love it if they try it and we think of it as a mission to share the style with as many guys as possible.
